Speed Reader — Privacy Policy

Publisher: Trimtab Labs · Effective date: 26 June 2026
Applies to the Speed Reader Chrome extension (internal name "Turbo Word").

Speed Reader flashes text you paste or select, one word at a time, so you can read faster. Everything runs on your own device. It does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data — there is no account, no sign-up, and no server.

What we store

The only thing Speed Reader saves is your preferences — reading speed (WPM), how many words to show at a time, the text size and font, and your colour/contrast choice (including any custom text and background colours). These are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and never leave your device.

What we do not do

Speed Reader makes no network requests, has no backend server, and contains no analytics, tracking, advertising, or accounts. It does not collect your browsing history. The text you read — whether you paste it, grab it from a page selection, or send it via the right-click “Speed-read selection” item — is processed entirely on your device and is never stored permanently or sent anywhere. (The selected text is handed to the fullscreen reader through local browser storage and cleared once the reader opens.)

Page-selection reading

When you click “Read selection” or use the right-click “Speed-read selection” item, Speed Reader uses the activeTab and scripting permissions to read only the text you have highlighted on the current tab, at that moment, only. It does not run in the background on pages, does not read pages you have not invoked it on, and keeps no copy.

Permissions

activeTab + scripting (to read your current selection on demand), storage (to remember your preferences and hand selected text to the fullscreen reader), and contextMenus (to add the right-click “Speed-read selection” item). Nothing more. The fullscreen reading mode uses the browser’s built-in Fullscreen API and requires no permission.

Data sharing

None — we have no data to share because we collect none.

Limited Use

Speed Reader’s use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
